COMMITMENT

The adoption of any animal is a commitment to provide for that animal for the entirety that it is in your care. Kenyan Sand Boa Nerds expects you to conduct thorough research and to ask questions to ensure you can provide the best home, habitat, and care for your kenyan sand boa. We can take back or assist you in rehoming your kenyan sand boa at any time if needed.

We support the United States Association of Reptile Keepers (USARK). "An Education, Conservation and Advocacy Organization for Herpetofauna... Promoting Awareness, Responsible Care & Professional Unity…. Our goal is to facilitate cooperation between government agencies, the scientific community, and the private sector in order to produce policy proposals that will effectively address important husbandry and conservation issues.”

We donate $1 for every snake sold.

PURCHASING

Payment plans with a $50 non-refundable deposit that goes towards the final purchase price. Payments must be made in full prior to shipment.

Please complete payments as soon as possible to avoid shipping delays. Due to the sometimes unpredictable nature of extreme summer and winter temperatures and storms, shipping windows can change at a moments notice - for better or worse. Shipping will always be arranged at the soonest and safest available date. We reserve the right to cancel transactions if payments are not completed prior to the close of shipping in summer/winter.

SHIPPING

We ship priority overnight exclusively; packages are tendered to FedEx Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday and will arrive at the destination location typically by 10:30 AM the very next day. Zip codes that are categorized by FedEx as urban, rural or remote will receive deliveries by 10:30 a.m., noon or 4:30 p.m. respectively.

We strongly prefer to have packages sent directly to a FedEx Ship Center near you for pick up at that location. This is safer and less stressful for your Kenyan Sand Boa. The package will be kept in a climate controlled environment and will reduce the amount of time your KSB is on the back of a FedEx truck. Please inspect your kenyan sand boa upon arrival and notify us as soon as possible so we can be assured the animal(s) arrived safely and in good condition.

INSURANCE

Kenyan Sand Boa Nerds assumes no liability for shipments that are lost, delayed or mishandled by the carrier, or for delays by the receiver in picking up the shipment. We take every measure to ensure the safety of your kenyan sand boa during shipment. However, for forces outside of our control, ShipYourReptiles offers insurance that you may choose to take advantage of.

Insurance must be purchased at the same time as the shipping label. This insurance will cover the cost of your shipping label if the package is delivered late and it will also cover the value of your kenyan sand boa if it is late and DOA. Please inform us if you would like to purchase insurance. Insurance is an additional cost of $2.50 per $100 you wish to insure. If you decline insurance then you are not eligible to receive a refund for the shipping charge or a payment for the value of the shipment.

Please refer to the SYR Website for details on how their insurance works and how to process a claim. Claims are time sensitive, so be sure to contact Kenyan Sand Boa Nerds and follow the full SYR procedures that are required should an insurable instance occur.

HEALTH

There is a 30 day health guarantee. If your kenyan sand boa appears to be in ill health within this period we ask that you contact us immediately. We will require pictures of your kenyan sand boa and their habitat, as well as complete details of your husbandry practices. Refunds, returns, and replacements may be offered on a case by case basis. We will do everything in our power to fairly make right any wrongs that may come up.

FEEDING

Please see the feeding section in our Kenyan Sand Boa care sheet (LINK) for feeding guidelines. We list our baby Kenyan Sand Boas as available after they have taken a minimum of three consecutive meals and ship after their fifth meal.

Shipping and a change in environment can be stressful on your kenyan sand boa and handling should be limited until regular feeding is established. If you have problems getting your kenyan sand boa to eat after trying the methods outlined in the care sheet, or if you become concerned at any time, then please contact us directly so we may advise you.

GENDER & GENETICS

The gender of a Kenyan Sand Boa can be determined by visually assessing the shape of the tail from cloaca to tail tip, but this can sometimes prove unreliable - especially on younger Kenyan Sand Boas. We use a method called palpating in order to 100% guarantee gender. This is a safe and non-invasive method.

We will always fully disclose the known genetics for our kenyan sand boas. We can provide pictures of parents for any sand boa produced by Kenyan Sand Boa Nerds.

QUARANTINE

This is a standard procedure all reptile keepers should practice regardless of how healthy your current or new animals appear to be. Whenever you receive a new reptile they should be placed in quarantine away from any other reptiles you may have. Quarantine does not mean you cannot handle your KSB, but it does mean limiting their exposure to and from other reptiles. Quarantine should last for a minimum of 90 days and up to 180 days; typically 90 days is sufficient. While it is unlikely we have shipped you a sick animal as we take every precaution, we advise that you monitor the health of your kenyan sand boa during this time.

RESPONSIBILITY

Purchaser assumes responsibility for all federal, state and local regulations regarding the animal(s) that are purchased. Kenyan Sand Boa Nerds is not responsible for bites, scratches, or other injuries and transmissions inflicted by any of the animals that are purchased from us.

Kenyan Sand Boa Nerds strives to be fair, honest, and reliable. We raise our kenyan sand boas as beloved pets and do not anticipate there will be any errors or concerns with any animal obtained from us.

SHIPPING ESTIMATES

Shipping costs vary depending on destination, package size, and package weight. Shipping typically ranges from $50-$85. However, in most cases, we offer a flat rate shipping charge of $50.

WHERE WE SHIP

We ship within the United States only (lower 48, not Alaska or Hawaii). The package will arrive clearly marked that it contains a Live Harmless Reptile. We also include an invoice and details regarding your kenyan sand boa such as gender, birth date, weight, genetics/lineage,  prey-item size/type, and the dates of their last feeding and shed.

While we can ship to your residence (signature required), we highly recommend choosing to pick up your kenyan sand boa at a nearby FedEx Ship Center instead. This is to prevent the possibility of FedEx missing you during the first delivery attempt. We want to reduce the amount of time your kenyan sand boa is on the back of a FedEx truck as much as possible. By shipping to a FedEx Ship Center your kenyan sand boa will arrive by 10:30 AM* and will be held inside a temperature controlled facility until you can pick the package up that day before 5 PM. We will require shipping to a FedEx Ship Center during certain temperatures/conditions.

We cannot ship to a business or office, only a residence or a FedEx Ship Center. We follow the extensive guidelines and regulations outlined by Ship Your Reptiles, a FedEx-certified service that allows us to create shipping labels and insure our packages.

Search for a FedEx Ship Center near you, or provide us your address and we can find the closest one to you. Must be a FedEx Ship Center, NOT a FedEx Office, Pak Mail, Mail Boxes Etc. or other satellite/franchise location.

DELIVERY DAYS

We require 48 hour notice for when you would like your Kenyan Sand Boa to be shipped. This allows us time to prepare packaging, purchase the shipping label and optional insurance, and ensure appropriate temperatures at both the origin and destination locations. We will not ship out on Thursday for Friday delivery as we want to avoid potential delays over the weekend. There is no weekend delivery.

Monday ship-out delivers Tuesday before 10:30 AM*

Tuesday ship-out delivers Wednesday before 10:30 AM*

Wednesday ship-out delivers Thursday before 10:30 AM*

*Unless delayed. Zip codes that are categorized by FedEx as urban, rural or remote will receive deliveries by 4:30 PM.

TEMPERATURE REGULATION

We will not compromise on safety, and we have years of shipping experience. The safe temperature windows refer to the daytime high only, and apply to both the origin and destination locations.

Below 38°F: We will NOT ship.

38-69°F: We will ship, with a heat pack, ONLY to a FedEx Ship Center facility.

Cold weather shipping requires a larger ship box to ensure safety while using a heat pack. Additional shipping charges may apply.

70-91°F: Regular shipping.

92-99°F: We will ONLY ship to a FedEx Ship Center facility.

Over 99°F: We will NOT ship.

CLOSED SUMMER/WINTER SHIPPING

Aside from when temperatures are outside the acceptable range, Kenyan Sand Boa Nerds will not ship during the winter holiday season. During this time there is a large volume of packages in transit that can increase the likelihood that our package could be delayed, damaged, or lost. We will also attempt to monitor thunder and snow storms and will recommend waiting to ship your KSB during such events due to increased likelihood of delays.

Closed for Summer: Typically June through September due to extreme temperatures, but can vary.

Closed for Winter: Starts the week of Thanksgiving, which is the fourth week of November, through the second week of January.

DELAYS

Delays are always a potential risk; this is outside of our control once FedEx has received the package. We always monitor weather conditions prior to dropping off a package to try and minimize this risk. We also regularly monitor the location of your package and will provide you with a tracking number so you can do the same. If a delay occurs, we will contact SYR who will contact FedEx to attempt to expedite the shipment or have the package moved inside a FedEx temperature controlled office; we are unable to guarantee the outcome of such attempts.

LOCAL PICK UP

We are located in Phoenix, AZ and would be happy to arrange local pick-up. We also occasionally travel to California and we could possibly arrange to bring your KSB to an area near Palm Springs, Riverside, Rialto, and Temecula. This option is limited and depends on our personal travel schedule; please inquire for more details on coordinating such a delivery.

UNPACKING, ACCLIMATING, FEEDING

  • Open the box and remove the top insulation and some of the top newspaper to allow some light to reach the top of the deli-cup.
  • Allow the box to sit for 15 minutes while your sand boa acclimates to the room temperature and lighting.
  • Open the deli-cup and assess your sand boa. Try to limit this initial handling to a short period of time; shipping can be stressful and they’ll need to feel safe in their new home and environment.
  • Place your sand boa on top of the substrate on the warm side of their enclosure. They may not be very active at first, especially if temperatures were low during transit.
  • Ensure there is fresh water available and visually check on your kenyan sand boa throughout the day to make sure they are adjusting well.
  • Avoid further handling until your kenyan sand boa takes their first meal with you. You can offer food as early as 24-48 hours after receiving your sand boa.
  • We typically tong feed within the enclosure to encourage a stronger and more conistent feeding response.
  • If your sand boa doesn’t eat right away, then leave the food item in the enclosure overnight, or place your sand boa and their prey item in a deli-cup overnight. You can place the deli-cup within the habitat (not over the heat!) and cover slightly with substrate. This should only be done with f/t, pre-killed, or young pinkies only - never with live mice capable of harming your snake. Your sand boa should eat by morning; if not then double check temperatures/humidity and repeat the process every 5 days until feeding resumes. If feeding doesn’t resume, or if at any time you become concerned, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
